Common questions
Should I choose manual or electric operation?
Manual (spring push-up or geared hand-chain) suits smaller openings, low daily use and sites without a convenient power supply, and costs less. Electric operation is recommended for large or heavy curtains, frequent daily cycles, and staff convenience; it adds key-switch, remote, timer and smart control, and always retains a manual emergency override for power cuts.
Can a roller shutter keep my window display visible?
Yes. Perforated and punched steel/aluminium curtains secure the opening while leaving an open pattern for a see-through effect, and polycarbonate/glazed shutters give near-clear visibility. These are ideal where you want the display lit and shopping-able after hours.
What security rating do I need?
For most retail, standard commercial security is sufficient, but higher-risk sites (jewellers, pharmacies, electronics) or insurer requirements often call for an independently tested LPS 1175 rating: SR2 is common for retail, with SR3+ for high-value stock. We survey the risk and specify accordingly.
Are your security shutters fire shutters?
No. A standard security shutter is not a fire barrier. Only shutters specifically tested and certified to BS EN 16034 provide rated fire resistance. If your building’s fire strategy needs a compartment shutter, that is a distinct certified product we can specify separately.
Are powered shutters safe for staff and the public?
When specified to BS EN 12453 they include safety features such as a sensitive bottom edge, photocells for obstacle detection and an anti-drop safety brake. Operating mode and safety devices are chosen to match where people can reach the shutter, and are maintained under DHF / BS 7036 guidance.
